About us

Principle Marketing Services Limited (PMSL), trades under the name Salaam Halal insurance. Takaful cover arranged by Salaam insurance is underwritten by Principle Insurance Company Limited (PICL). 

PMSL and PICL, together with other members of their group (Principle Insurance) have a firm commitment to privacy and this policy (Privacy Policy) sets out Principle Insurance’s information gathering and dissemination practices for the www.salaaminsurance.com site (the Site).  PMSL and other relevant members of Principle Insurance are registered as data controllers under the Data Protection Act 1998 and they will process your personal data only in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

By submitting your information to Principle Insurance you agree to the processing set out in this Privacy Policy. Principle Insurance reserves the right to revise this Privacy Policy at any time by updating this posting.

This Site contains links to other websites. Except as may be otherwise expressly provided herein, Principle Insurance is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.

Your information

When you use the Site, Principle Insurance may collect personal data from you.  In particular, as part of the quote process, Principle Insurance may request personal data relating to health and criminal convictions from you.  When you are asked for such sensitive personal data, Principle Insurance will ask for your consent to process it. 

Principle Insurance may also collect certain information from you in the course of your using the Site, including your domain name and IP address, your browser version, your operating system, the URL you came from (including third party URLs), the pages you visit within the Site, and the URL to which you go when you leave the Site (including third party URLs).

Principle Insurance may also be provided with information about you from third parties or public sources in accordance with your rights and the Data Protection Act 1998.

How Principle Insurance uses your information

Principle Insurance and its agents and subcontractors may also use information about you for the following purposes:

  • administering Takaful cover;
  • claims handling; 
  • fraud detection and protection; 
  • assessing financial and underwriting risks; 
  • recovering debts; 
  • crime prevention; 
  • testing Principle Insurance products and services; and
  • monitoring calls/ service provision.

Where Principle Insurance passes your information to agents and subcontractors to use on Principle Insurance’s behalf Principle Insurance will ensure that appropriate security controls are in place to ensure at least the same level of protection as Principle Insurance has over your information.

Principle Insurance may also use your information for marketing its own and selected third parties’ products and services to you by post, email, SMS, phone and fax and, where required by law, Principle Insurance will ask for your consent at the time Principle Insurance collects your data to conduct any of these types of marketing.

Principle Insurance will provide an option to unsubscribe or opt-out of further communication on any electronic marketing communication sent to you.

By careful selection processes (including geographical and name analysis) Principle Insurance makes every effort to ensure that its marketing primarily reaches people who will be interested in its products. Principle Insurance believes that provision of Takaful and other Shariah compliant financial service products is of real benefit to those of the Muslim faith. Despite this, its products are open to all applicants and Principle Insurance does not hold any information regarding your beliefs.

In the event that Principle Insurance is sold to a third party or undergoes a re-organisation, you agree that any of your personal information which it holds may be transferred to that re-organised entity or third party and used for the same purposes.

Required disclosures

By law Principle Insurance must add details in relation to any Takaful contracts to the Motor Insurance Database run by the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre. This data will be used by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency for electronic vehicle licensing by the police to establish if a motor insurance certificate covers the use of the vehicle and for preventing and detecting crime. 

If you are involved in an accident, whether in the UK or abroad, other authorised insurers, the Motor Insurers’ Bureau and the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre will search the Motor Insurers Database to obtain relevant information. Anyone pursuing a claim for a road traffic accident, including people resident in other countries, also has a legal right to obtain relevant information. For more information, see www.miic.org.uk.

In order to keep your Takaful Contribution low and to provide the best cover, Principle Insurance takes part in a number of insurance industry initiatives to prevent and detect crime.  Principle Insurance can (and you authorise it to) disclose any information about you to law enforcement or other government or regulatory bodies and their officials if so requested or as it, in its sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate, in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringements, breach of any law or regulation or other activity that is illegal or may expose it to legal liability, or in order to protect its rights and property. Further, Principle Insurance can (and you authorise us to) disclose information about you to third party entities, as it in its sole discretion believe necessary or appropriate, in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringement, piracy, or other unlawful activity.  If you or anyone acting on your behalf, give Principle Insurance any false, inaccurate or incomplete information, and Principle Insurance identifies fraud, it will record this fact.

Both Principle Insurance and these other organisations may also search agencies and databases in the UK or abroad to enable Principle Insurance to make decisions about the provision and administration of cover, the handling of claims as well as credit and related services for you and members of your household.  These may also be used to trace debtors or beneficiaries and for credit searches, recovering debt, preventing fraud, managing your accounts or Takaful contracts, checking identities, preventing money laundering or additional fraud searches. In order to prevent fraud, and to ensure that any payments or refunds can be correctly processed, Principle Insurance may keep your credit or debit card details on its files for the duration of your cover.  When you provide these details to Principle Insurance, you consent to Principle Insurance doing this.

Cookies

Principle Insurance and its authorised service providers use cookies to track sessions on the Site. Cookies are a technology which can be used to provide you with tailored information from a Web site. A cookie is an element of data that a Web site can send to your browser, which may then store it on your system. You can set your browser to notify you when you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it.

Cookies are used for the following purposes:

  • Completing your current activity;
  • To tailor content to your preferences;
  • To avoid repetition in the advertisements you are shown or the questionnaires you are invited to complete;
  • Site usage analysis and improvements to the structure of the Site; and
  • Site administration.

Only the first of these purposes will identify you as an individual. For all other purposes the data collected will be anonymous. Cookie information is retained for an indeterminate period of time. No information identifying the user is retained; anonymous session information is logged. This data will be solely used by Principle Insurance and any third party data processors used by Principle Insurance, but will not be passed to any other third parties.

How Principle Insurance will store your data

Any personal data Principle Insurance collects from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination in another country (including outside the EEA). Where Principle Insurance make any such transfer it shall ensure that appropriate security controls are in place to ensure at least the same level of protection as it has over your information.  By submitting any personal data to Principle Insurance, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing.  

Principle Insurance takes all reasonable steps to retain data only for the duration of the purpose for which it was obtained.  When requested, Principle Insurance will delete personal data from current operational systems where it is no longer required. However, Principle Insurance may need to continue to hold some details about you after your relationship with  Principle Insurance has ended, for example for legal and regulatory purposes.

Your rights

You may contact Principle Insurance to change or modify information previously provided, to remove information from Principle Insurance’s database or to elect not to receive certain communications from Principle Insurance, or with questions about its Privacy Policy as follows:

Principle Insurance may retain in its files certain information you have requested them to remove in some circumstances, in order to resolve future disputes, to troubleshoot problems, or to enforce Principle Insurance’s Website Terms of Use. If you engage in a transaction on the Site, your transaction details will only be removed upon request.  Principle Insurance will otherwise use commercially reasonable efforts to delete all sensitive user information from its database upon request; however, such deleted information is often not completely removed from its databases due to technical constraints and its policy of backing up data. Therefore, you should not expect that all of your sensitive information will be completely removed from Principle Insurance’s databases in response to your requests. 

Principle Insurance take all reasonable steps to uphold your rights to protect your personal data, including the right to obtain information on, update or amend any personal data on you that  Principle Insurance hold.  The Data Protection Act 1998 gives you the right to access information held about you.  Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.  Any access request may be subject to a fee of £10 or the fee currently applicable to meet Principle Insurance’s costs in providing you with details of the information Principle Insurance holds about you. You have the right to ask Principle Insurance not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. You can exercise your right to prevent such processing by contacting Principle Insurance using the details set out above.

Keeping your data secure

While Principle Insurance strives to protect its customers' and users' personal data and privacy and hold such personal data in accordance with the security requirements required by the Data Protection Act 1998, Principle Insurance cannot guarantee absolutely the security of any information you disclose online. You acknowledge that you are aware of security and privacy limitations, including but not limited to: (1) the limitation of security, privacy and authentication measures and features in this system; and (2) that data or information on the Site may be subject to eavesdropping, sniffing, spoofing, forgery, spamming, “impostering”, tampering, breaking passwords, harassment, fraud, electronic trespassing, hacking, nuking, system contamination (including, without limitation, viruses, worms, and Trojan horses) causing unauthorised, damaging or harmful access and/or retrieval of information and data on your computer, may be subject to other security or privacy hazards or may not reach its destination or may reach an erroneous address or recipient.  Principle Insurance does not accept any liability for information which has been obtained through unauthorised access to the Site.
